Private Eyes

I just love the caramel brown color in this dress and the tulip print is a huge plus because they’re my favorite flowers! It’s a little too cold to be wearing it but I just couldn’t resist. I just realized that, aside from the shoes, everything I’m wearing is vintage. Nothing is better than finding an item at a vintage/thrift store at an affordable price. Let’s do the math…
Dress: $14
Bag: $20
Cloche: $10
That comes to a grand total of just $44 bucks! In my book, that’s a steal.

And yes…I mean private eyes as in “Private Eyes.” What else could I have possibly meant? Love the Hall and Oates.

Garden State

Dressing for winter has always been a challenge for me; a girl who favors colorful, summery frocks. Rather than retiring my summer wardrobe during colder months I prefer finding ways to make them more winter-friendly. Tights are a welcome accessory for skirts, dresses and shorts during winter. By wearing tights I’m able to make my summer wardrobe work double-time — and that’s doubly good for my wallet.

This frock is made by Yoanna Baraschi — one of my favorite designers! She has a clear appreciation for gorgeous prints and I love her for it. I absolutely adore the Japanese-inspired floral print. The faux-wrap coral sash makes me feel like I’m wearing a kimono. When I first purchased it the sleeves were too long and it looked like someone had mopped the floor with it. After a trip to the cleaners it shined like new and after I made the sleeves shorter — by creating a pleating effect –  it felt like it was custom tailored. This dress puts me in such a garden state of mind.

Scalloping Along

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and new year’s! How did 2012 get here so fast? I feel like 2011 never happened! What can I say, it was a busy year. Now that the holidays are over and I’m heading back to work, I can’t help but feel like I need another week off…or two…or twenty. But I suppose that’s life — so cyclical in nature. Before we know it 2013 will be here so I’m gonna make the most of 2012! I predict this year is going to be a great one.

I’m not sure what I was thinking with this outfit. Apparently, I was channeling Princess Leia if scallop detailing exploded all over her. Anyways, whether  on a pattern or hem, I love scallops! Though I can’t quite place what it reminds me of, the playful pattern on the sweater is so nostalgic. I picked this sweater up at Anthropologie during their huge sale for just $19.99! The scalloped hem on the skirt completes this playful look.

Fall Frock

* The Outfit *
This is a frock that I typically wear during warmer months but with a pair of opaque tights underneath and a tweed jacket on top, it instantly becomes fall-appropriate. The floral print is more subdued so it lends itself well to this season. I love how easily tights pave the way for summer dresses, shorts and skirts to work overtime into cooler months. Try donning a pair that incorporates wool into its blend — they are so comfy and cozy! DKNY Jersey Knit Tights are one of my favorite winter accessories.
